1. What are 3 important facts you learned about the video?

That the jewish communites are very kept to themself they dont like to comunitcate with other people. they try to only be invovled with jewish people in their lives and childrens.

2. How did what you watched in these videos help you better understand Asher Lev, his family and the community he lives in?

That Asher lev community and family really manage their time they do their studies, school and prayer and dont get involved with things that doesnt imply to their religion. they try not to be on their own paths which mean they dont like interfer with others.

3. Provide 5 situations you read thus far in My Name is Asher Lev that are directly influenced by what you watched in these videos, of the Hasidim religion.

school, home, synagogue,traditional values, neighborhood,prayer.

4. Name one thing you would like to further explore. You have must name at least one thing, as we know that these videos do not give us the full picture of the entire religion.

One thing the videos didnt emphize on what the father's major roles are . The mother is the one who takes care of the child and helps that child learn and memorize him/her roles as jewish children but major effect does the father have. In Asher lev the father is basically never around. How do they add to the childs life and what major roles are presented in that postion?

Poetry Out Loud

Song of the Powers By David Mason
Mine, said the stone,
mine is the hour.
I crush the scissors,
such is my power.
Stronger than wishes,
my power, alone.
Mine, said the paper,
mine are the words
that smother the stone
with imagined birds,
reams of them, flown
from the mind of the shaper.
Mine, said the scissors,
mine all the knives
gashing through paper’s
ethereal lives;
nothing’s so proper
as tattering wishes.
As stone crushes scissors,
as paper snuffs stone
and scissors cut paper,
all end alone.
So heap up your paper
and scissor your wishes
and uproot the stone
from the top of the hill.
They all end alone
as you will, you will.

5 Themes In Asher Lev

1.family
2.religion

3. social worms

4.struggle for identity

5.desire for art

the theme I picked is struggle for identity because its a major part of Asher's life.

Asher struggles each and every single day finding himself . One major particle why Asher has a hard time of finding himself is that each of his parents expect something major from him. He has a hard time finding himself because of his desire for art.

like it says in chaper one he's a gifted child. Wthout art he has a hard time expressing his true identity as an artist. basically all Asher is hiding his real identity. He knows he and his family are observant jews so he tries not bringing shame to his family by not drawing even though he's going to bring shame in the future but this time he tries to keep his drawing on the down low. Asher for now is discovering his true self as an observant jew inoder to do that he has to stop drawing for awhile which he did.

In conclusion Asher might have a struggle finding his true identity but he's going through a phase of finding himself. In the position of his father working for the rabbi Asher has high standards of being the best . Asher is in a akward stage which every child goes through but I believe Asher will find his true identity before the story is finished. Asher is almost of the insight of his true self .
